WYCLIFFE BENNETT TO GET POSTHUMOUS O.J. AWARD...PM GOLDING ANNOUNCES:
Prime Minister Bruce Golding this morning (Oct 17) announced that Jamaica's ‘Man of the Arts', distinguished broadcaster and film producer, Wycliffe Bennett, is to be posthumously awarded the ‘Order of Jamaica'.
Speaking at the thanksgiving service for the life of Mr. Bennett at the Providence Methodist Church in Kingston, Mr. Golding said it is an unquestionably deserved accolade for an outstanding Jamaican who has made such great contribution to his country.
Cue in: Wycliffe Bennett was a tremendous asset .....
Cue out: ...the order of Jamaica (clapping).
The Order of Jamaica is the fourth in order of precedence of the five Orders of the Societies of Honour.
The Prime Minister has invited Mr. Bennett's widow, Dr Hazel Bennett to Kings House on Monday to accept the award. Wycliffe Bennett was laid to rest
in a dignified service which heard several musical presentations and colourful tributes from the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Olivia ‘Babsy' Grange, the chairpersons of the Creative Production and Training Centre, CPTC, the Ward Theatre, the Little Theatre, the Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies, and members of the Bennett family.
