...ENERGY MINISTER PROPOSES:

Minister of Energy and Mining, James Robertson has proposed to Cabinet that the Jamaica National Energy Policy 2009-2030 be tabled in Parliament as a White Paper to facilitate its timely implementation.
Minister of Information, Daryl Vaz told this week's Post Cabinet Press briefing at Jamaica House that the Energy Minister had presented Cabinet with a Submission in connection with the policy and advised of the progress made to date.

"Jamaica's National Energy Policy 2009-2020 represents the revision of the Energy Policy Green Paper 2006-2020 based on national consultations and comments received from a wide cross-section of society, as well as informed by the current realities facing Jamaica. The Policy is also in keeping with the country's long-term plan to achieve developed country status by 2030" Mr. Vaz explained.

The policy proposes priority attention to seven key areas: energy conservation and efficiency; modernising the country's energy infrastructure; developing renewable energy sources; securing energy supply through diversification of fuels; developing a comprehensive governance/regulatory framework; and enabling government Ministries, departments and Agencies to be leaders of energy management and eco-efficiency in industries.
