ADOPT BEST PRACTICES- PM GOLDING URGES CIVIL SERVANTS
Prime Minster Bruce Golding has urged heads of civil service entities that they need to institutionalize best practices in their organizations as the public is not accepting lack of resources as an acceptable excuse for bad service.
He was speaking in Kingston on May 20 at the 2008-2009 Public Sector Customer Service Awards Ceremony in Kingston.
Accepting that in most instances the public sector worker is under-resourced, the Prime Minister said, customers are not prepared to accept this as an excuse; and he urged public servants to apply creativity and find solutions that can get that service out of the door notwithstanding the resource constraints.
The Prime Minister complimented the Public Sector Modernization Programme (PSMP) for using the competition to challenge, encourage, induce and give incentives to public sector workers to go the extra mile and to "think outside of the box" whenever necessary.
The National Land Agency (NLA) was awarded the Prime Minister's Trophy for Best Customer Service Agency and also the Manpower and Maintenance Services Award for Best Executive Agency for 2008-2009. The NLA consistently surpassed service standards and responsiveness to customer queries and complaints.
This is the third staging of the biennial competition which started in 2001.
