"Many individuals, many institutions that made it the success that it was and not the least among them are the security dealers and I want to thank you for the support that you gave, you made it work. I want to thank you for the resilience that you demonstrated; that the sector was capable of. It is a matter of record, and it something of which we can not just be proud, but something that I think manifests just how strong the sector is and what the financial sector is capable of doing."

The Prime Minister noted that the Government had made policy commitments towards more prudent public spending.

"It is going to be important that we so cement the reforms that are taking place, the new approach to fiscal management, that must become the routine way in which we do business long after the IMF (International Monetary Fund) have left, otherwise it won't be long before we are going to be back to where we were and I am not sure that we will have an opportunity to recover again if that happens, and that is why we are so diligently pursuing the implementation of the fiscal responsibility framework which is a comprehensive set of measures."

The security dealers chose as their theme for the luncheon: Shifting Business Models - Post JDX Paradigm. Prime Minister Golding noted that they have what it takes to make changes towards new goals.

"I think that we have in Jamaica sufficient knowledge, the experience, we are sufficiently cosmopolitan, we know the thing and we see how it is done elsewhere. If we can get this thing together, I believe it won't be long from now we are going to see the country move in a speed in a direction that many of us are going to be panting to try to keep up with it. We can do it. Let's go do it."
