PM Golding returns from CARICOM Conference
While in Antigua, Mr. Golding addressed the opening ceremony of the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference at which Professor Rex Nettleford and Dr. Barbara Bailey were presented with the Order of the Caribbean Community and the Triennial Award for Women, respectively. He also met with Jamaicans living in Antigua and Barbuda.
Arising from the Heads of Government Conference, a proposal has been made for a team comprising representatives from the World Bank, CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Development Bank to be set up, to make recommendations aimed at addressing debt restructuring and establishing special windows for development financing for the region’s heavily indebted middle income countries. CARICOM also signed off on a number of issues relating to the tourism sector, including marketing, the branding of tourism in the region, multi-destination marketing and airlifts to the region.
On the afternoon of his return Mr. Golding will address a graduation at the Tivoli Gardens High School and another at St. George’s College. He will later address the launch of the Western Union Basketball Competition in West Kingston.
