PM GOLDING IMPRESSED WITH EXPANSION
WORK AT BOSCOBEL AERODROME
Prime Minister Bruce Golding has expressed satisfaction with the expansion work now being undertaken at the Boscobel aerodrome in St Mary. The runway is being extended to 4,800 ft in Phase One to allow airplanes seating up to 15-20 persons to land. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November and the aerodrome will welcome its first flight by the first week in December.
Mr. Golding was taken on a tour of the facility this afternoon (Aug 14) by the Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government reform in the Office of the Prime Minister and MP for West St Mary, Robert Montague. They were accompanied by representatives of the Airports Authority, the National Works Agency and parish council representatives.
Minister Montague disclosed that the terminal building will also be expanded to provide services as an international charter jet port with customs and immigration sections separate from internal traffic. He said, "We are aiming for the private pilots market and the villa market. We are also looking at the entertainment market because the development at James Bond beach will see the construction of a major platform and recording studio. Artistes will be able to fly in, as it is less than five minutes away from the performing venue.
