PM GOLDING CLEARS THE AIR ON MEETING WITH
NWU ON SALE OF AIR JAMAICA

Prime Minister Bruce Golding says his office had no knowledge that the National Workers Union should have been a part of the delegation representing the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association (JALPA) which met with him earlier this week to discuss a proposal on the sale of Air Jamaica.

Mr. Golding was responding to accusations from the NWU that he had failed to facilitate a meeting with the Union on the Air Jamaica sale. Mr. Golding explained that his itinerary for Monday, January 18, the scheduled date for meeting with the pilots, had to be adjusted at very short notice. Mr. Golding said he had received a call on Sunday to attend an emergency meeting in the Dominican Republic on Monday (Jan 18) to discuss Caricom's role in the rescue, relief and reconstruction for earthquake ravished Haiti.

On his return to the island, the meeting with the airline pilots was rescheduled to the following morning (Tuesday, January 19) at 8:00 am at Jamaica House. That meeting was attended by seven members of JALPA along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ken Baugh, Minister of Health, Mr. Ruddy Spencer in his capacity as former head of the BITU which represented Air Jamaica, as well as other government officials.
