OAS congratulates Jamaica on Olympics performance
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Bruce Golding, the Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza, said the sweep of the gold medals in the men’s and women’s 100Ms by Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser respectively, and the silver medals by Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson, are remarkable achievements for which Jamaica should be very proud.
Mr. Insulza said it is not often that an athlete from any of the Caribbean or the Latin American countries wins many medals in these games. ‘It therefore makes all of us in this hemisphere immensely happy and proud that our sister state of Jamaica so decisively claimed the coveted titles of the world’s fastest man and woman’, the letter noted.
The OAS Secretary General said the organization is cheering for, and along with the Prime Minister and the Jamaican people, as the island’s athletes continue to perform at the exceptional high levels during the Olympic Games.
