MORE THAN 100 SCHOOLS TARGETTED FOR INSPECTION
The National Educational Inspectorate is targetting more than 100 schools during the current fiscal year. Chief Inspector, Mrs. Elaine Foster Allen, said this during the April 28 edition of Jamaica House Live that was hosted by Minister of Education Andrew Holness in the absence of the Prime Minister.
Mrs. Foster Allen said of the initial findings," some principals are not focusing on the key issues of curriculum teaching and learning. They are getting the environment looking well, but when it comes to curriculum leadership, instructional leadership, educational leadership; we are not finding it".
Noting that the Principals and teachers welcomed the assessment, she said that the Inspectorate's approach is not a one-off visit, but is aimed towards continual improvement where the input of parents, students and staff are taken into account even before the inspection begins. The Inspectorate is an initiative of the government towards increasing the quality of service delivery in schools.
