MORE LAND TITLES REGISTERED IN ONE YEAR THAN EVER BEFORE – MINISTER VAZ
The Land Administration Management Programme (LAMP) registered its most successful year for registration of titles.
This was announced by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Daryl Vaz, in his budget presentation on July 27.
Minister Vaz said, “Last year, LAMP secured its highest number of parcels registered yet in any one year, 925, amounting to 54% of total first registration titles issued to date.”
The LAMP programme is a project of the Office of the Prime Minister that is reducing the number of unregistered titles from the current 40%. Land titling is key to the development of rural communities.
Minister Vaz also noted that the services of LAMP are now more accessible as there are LAMP agents providing services in National Housing Trust (NHT) offices in St. Elizabeth and Clarendon. This service will be expanded to more parishes.
A Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year by the government has also established a second phase of LAMP. The second phase will continue the registration and updating of titles and will also undertake the conversion of National Land Agency records into a digital format.
