MINISTER VAZ CONGRATULATES NORTHERN CARIBBEAN
ON WINNING MICROSOFT IMAGE CUP:
Minister with responsibility for Information and Telecommunications, Daryl Vaz, has congratulated Northern Caribbean University (NCU) on winning the Microsoft Image Interoperability award on behalf of Jamaica and the Caribbean.
The Imagine Cup is an annual global technology competition sponsored by Microsoft to provide students with a platform to showcase their software development and technical skills. The competition has several categories in which students can participate, the most challenging of which is the Software Design category. This year, NCU had two teams in the world finals. Team Educ8 and Team Xormis represented the Caribbean region for the world championship title in Poland which took place from July 3 - 8, 2010.
In a congratulatory letter sent on behalf of the Government, Minister Vaz said the victory by Team Xormis has not only shown the quality of education offered by NCU but it has demonstrated to the world what Jamaicans, as a people can accomplish if given the opportunity.
‘The Government of Jamaica would like to thank you for your continuous pursuit of academic excellence and would like to encourage the staff and students to continue to make Jamaica proud', Mr. Vaz said. He singled out Team Xormis members-Dwayne Samuels, Markel Mairs, Shawn McLean and Derron Brown, for their outstanding performance while paying tribute to all students of NCU's department of Computer and Information Sciences.
