JUSTICE IS ESSENTIAL FOR VIBRANT ECONOMY

 - PM GOLDING

Prime Minister Bruce Golding today (April 21) secured funding for a four year programme that will improve the effectiveness of Jamaica's justice system. He made this announcement following the signing of the Justice Undertakings for Social Transformation (JUST) Programme between himself and the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper at Jamaica House, this morning.

Mr. Golding said that reform in the justice system is critical for the good of the country.  "It is an essential element in economic development. Investment activity does not thrive in a country that is not supported by a good, strong, effective justice system. The justice reform programme is important (but) so often, in the exigencies of fiscal constraints, gets de-prioritized; so often we feel that there are more pressing matters that need to attract our attention. It is particularly pleasing to note the particular interest that the Canadian government has taken," Mr. Golding said.
