JAMAICA LUCKY TO HAVE PRIME MINISTER GOLDING AT THIS TIME - SENATOR WEHBY

Out-going Senator Don Wehby has said that the country is fortunate to have Prime Minister Bruce Golding at this time of serious economic challenges. He was saying farewell to Cabinet colleagues during a luncheon held in his honour at Jamaica House yesterday, July 27.

"The first two years have been very difficult. We are about to negotiate with the IMF and it is going to get even more difficult. I don't think we should fool ourselves...we are going to have to take some medicine and with this medicine might have to expend some political capital. I say it in all sincerity, we are very fortunate as a nation to have you as a Prime Minister at this time. I have found your leadership to be very motivating, very decisive with a vision and I will go on record now and say in all sincerity that once we get over this crisis, which we will get over, you will go down in the records as the best Prime Minister," Senator Wehby said.

Senator Wehby attended his final Cabinet meeting this morning. He served two years as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Sector. He expressed his appreciation to have served as a member of the Cabinet of Bruce Golding saying that he considered the opportunity "an honour and a privilege."

Noting that he now had more respect for politicians and considers Minister Shaw a fighter, the departing Senator assured his former colleagues that his support of the Government will continue.

The Prime Minister praised Senator Wehby for his contribution and thanked him for the value that he brought to the Cabinet through the work that he has done and his general support of its programmes and policies.
