JAMAICA EARLY CHILDHOOD FOUNDATION PLEDGES
$250K TO ST CATHERING EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRE

Mrs Lorna Golding, wife of the Prime Minister, pledged $250,000 from the Jamaica Early Childhood Foundation to the St Catherine Early Childhood Resource Centre. She made the promise yesterday (November 19) at the opening ceremony where the Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, made the keynote presentation.

Speaking passionately about her dream to help improve early childhood education, Mrs Golding handed over a first tranche of $150,000 from the Foundation of which she is Chairman, noting that it was important to invest in children during challenging times.

"We have an economic war and when that happens, we must take care of the children...we must look after the generation behind us," Mrs Golding said recalling that was a strategy that was used by European countries immediately following World War 11.

Mrs Golding also referred to the abiding attachment that she has to the parish of St Catherine where her husband was the Member of Parliament for fourteen years and she urged the centre to expand its range of services to include medical checks for the children.

The Centre will be used for the training of Early Childhood Educators, seminars for Parent Teacher Associations, community parenting sessions and the storage and distribution of resource materials.
