Government to present more Land Titles to some 300 Jamaicans
Of this number, 200 will represent new titles and the remainder will be updated titles.
Presentations of titles to the beneficiaries will be made on Wednesday, August 27, at a special presentation ceremony at the New Testament Church of God at Commodore in Linstead, St Catherine. The presentation will begin at 1:00pm and will be addressed by the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Project Implementation Service Delivery and Member of Parliament for Portland (Western), Daryl Vaz.
LAMP was initiated as a pilot project funded jointly by the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Development Bank, under an agreement in 2000. Its objective is to assist the Government in establishing a dynamic land market that would promote the efficient use of land resources and allow accessibility to the general public.
The programme allows for the waiver of transfer tax and stamp duty where property is being brought under the Registration of Titles Act or where property is being transferred but is not subject of a sale.
Provision is also made for applicants to successfully make a claim to bring land under the Registration of Titles act by establishing a 12-year root of title. Since its inception, LAMP has started operations in targeted sections of St Thomas and will soon be expanding its reach to selected sections of Clarendon, St Elizabeth, St James and Manchester.
