GOVERNMENT TO LAUNCH NEW PHASE OF ICT SUPPORT AT CARIBBEAN ICT ROADSHOW IN KINGSTON, JULY 19-20

Government will be using the Caribbean Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Roadshow at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel from July 19-20 to launch a new phase of its promotion of the use of ICT in the country.

Chief Executive Officer of the Central Information Technology Office (CITO), Marie Wint McKenzie said "This is something that we are going to use to launch out with our ICT policy with initiatives from the government to say let us assist the citizenry to do what they can do with innovation and ICT".

Championed by CITO in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Caribbean ICT Roadshow is a part of the 20th anniversary of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) of which Jamaica is a member. The two-day event will be launched by Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, on Sunday, July 18.

Director of the Post and Telecommunications, Information & Telecommunications Division in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Cecil Mc Cain, says that the aim of the event is to raise the level of awareness of the people of Jamaica of the value of ICT. He said Jamaicans, who are noted for their entrepreneurial spirit, should benefit greatly from ICT.

The event also replaces the annual computer conference and so there will also be technical presentations for ICT technicians and managers.

The two-day event  is free and will be opened  to the public from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. daily. It   will include presenters for both a general audience and also ICT professionals. The show is supported by local business sponsors Digicel Business, Flow, Fujitsu, Innovative Corporate Solutions, Microsoft, Infotech and Xomo.  Government partners are CITO and the Spectrum Management Authority.
