GOVERNMENT AGENCIES STRIVING TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT
Cabinet has received business plans from three government agencies that have been given the mandate to become self-sufficient by 2012.
This was said by Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz at this week's Post Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House on October 7.
The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) and Private Security Regulatory
Authority (PSRA) are to become self financing; all three are agencies of the Ministry of National Security.
Cabinet approved the proposals for the FLA to be self-sustaining by the end of 2011 and for PICA by 2012.
The PSRA submitted a plan to be self sufficient by 2013, but have been instructed to revise their strategy and return with how they will prepare to be removed from the national budget by 2011.
Other agencies have been told to prepare for removal from the public purse, including the Real Estate Board.
