DEVELOPMENT OF CAYMANAS ENTERPRIZE ZONE
WILL CREATE MORE JOBS...
The development of the Caymanas Enterprise Zone which will provide thousands of new jobs is one of several plans outlined by Prime Minister Bruce Golding when he addressed the JLP's 66th annual conference over the weekend.
Mr. Golding said investor interest has been strong and commitments have been made which will enable construction to begin next year. He added that the planning of the Enterprise Zone is well advanced.
He also said that the government is "about to invite investors to bid for providing the investment and infrastructure necessary to enable us to shift much of our energy requirements from oil to natural gas so that electricity costs can come down."
Mr. Golding added that the government is pursuing exciting prospects for new investment in the bauxite and alumina industry so as to modernize the mining and processing operations that will put Jamaica back in business when the global conditions improve.
"We have just completed arrangements for a major water supply programme costing $19 billion to expand water supplies in several parishes across Jamaica" he said.
He also pointed to the transformation of the agricultural sector using higher technology and improved farming methods and the tourism sector which has been able to maintain visitor arrival numbers and a substantial part of the country's earnings.
