CONDOLENCES FROM
PRIME MINISTER BRUCE GOLDING
TO THE PEOPLE OF CUBA ON THE PASSING OF
DEPUTY PRESIDENT JUAN ALMEIDA BOSQUE
Prime Minister Bruce Golding has expressed condolences of the government and people of Jamaica on the passing of Deputy President of the Council of the State of Cuba and Member of the National Assembly of the People's Power (Parliament), Juan Almeida Bosque.
The Prime Minister in his message to the government and people of Cuba, said: "We salute the life and worth of a great patriot whose dedication to the liberation and progress of the Cuban people will forever constitute a part of the foundation on which its prosperity will continue to be built. Sincere condolences on the passing of such an important citizen of Cuba."
Mr. Almeida Bosque was the only black Commander of the Revolution who landed in the yacht, "Granma" with Fidel Castro in 1959. He was a warrior poet who composed more than 300 songs, many of which have become a part of the popular folk culture of Cuba. He died on September 11 at the age of 82.
