ADDITIONAL FIRE FIGHTING UNIT FOR NORMAN MANLEY AIRPORT
Cabinet approved US$1.1 million for the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) to purchase an additional aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle (ARFFV).
The disclosure was made by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Daryl Vaz, at this week's Post Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House.
The airport currently has three operational ARFFVs, which is the minimum number for airports that land large aircraft such as the Boeing 747, also called the Jumbo Jet.
Mr Vaz said this purchase was critical for the airport to maintain its current International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Category Nine level of fire fighting capacity. Category Nine is one level below the highest ranking of ten.
